Three Rivers,
in partnership with the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC),
has offered FREE online tutoring to its
students in both online and traditional courses since 2002.
We are now using
eTutoring,
a new online platform developed specifically for this service.
eTutoring
for the spring semester of 2008 ended May 9.
Unfortunately, TRCC does not
offer online tutoring during the summer semester.
We will resume in the fall, most likely with the following subjects in the following
subjects:
|
Writing (any discipline) |
Accounting |
|
Biology |
Mathematics (Developmental through Calculus) |
|
Anatomy & Physiology |
Statistics |
|
Chemistry |
Radiologic Technology |
|
Information Literacy/Research Methods |
Respiritory Therapy |
 |
|
eTutoring
offers live (synchronous) tutoring using a chat room-like setting in
all of the subjects listed above, except writing. For help
with writing, you can submit a paper and an
eTutor
will review it, usually within 24 hours, returning it with expert
advice and suggestions for improving your writing. For all subjects,
you can also submit a question
on the website anytime and anywhere you have access to the Internet
and an
eTutor
will respond, again,
usually within 24 hours.
As with any
legitimate tutoring service,
eTutoring
will not write your paper for you, nor will they do your homework
problems for you. What they will do is help you to improve
your own writing or help you with the "how" of solving a problem.
To register
for FREE online tutoring and to get started right
away, have your Banner student ID number ready
to create your account and log on to:

About
eTutoring:
Three Rivers is a part of the
Northeast eTutoring
Consortium, affiliated with the Connecticut Distance Learning
Consortium. eTutoring
is a collaborative effort by the Connecticut Community Colleges, the
Connecticut State Universities, as well as several
other colleges and universities throughout Connecticut, the schools
in the Vermont Community College system, and other colleges in Massachusetts,
New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
Each member institution supplies tutors and contributes to the program
and all students at the schools are eligible to share all of the
schools' tutors. The number of tutors supplied by each school
depends on that school's level of usage.
The online tutoring program used to use
the Smarthinking™
online tutoring platform (a commercial online tutoring service), where we rented
the use of their software and servers, but supplied our own tutors. In 2006,
though, staff at the CTDLC created their own platform, the (constantly evolving)
eTutoring
platform we now use.
Several colleges in Washington State were
previously in our program, but have split to form their own group, the
Northwest eTutoring
Consortium, using the same eTutoring
platform, but with their own group of tutors.
They expect to add other colleges in Washington and Oregon in the near future.
Additional
information is available on the
CTDLC website. |
