To connect to the Online Orientation, you will have to logon to myCommNet. myCommNet is the Connecticut Community Colleges' new self-service student information system, where you can register for courses, access your grades, and view other information relating to your records. Once you are logged in, you will follow the links to Blackboard Vista, where the orientation is actually located. Depending on the course and the instructor, Three Rivers uses the Blackboard Vista application for its online courses, hybrid (mix of online and classroom) courses, communication between students and faculty, and storing the syllabus for each class.

Step 1 - Logon to myCommNet

Go to http://my.commnet.edu (there is always a link to this site on Three Rivers' home page on the upper right side)

Enter your NetID (student user name). This is your student ID number, followed by the "at" sign, followed by "student.commnet.edu." So, if your student ID is @12345678, you would logon as 12345678@student.commnet.edu

Enter your Password.

- If you have already logged on to myCommNet or any of the school's networked computers, use that same Password.

 

- If this is your first time accessing your online information and you have never logged on to a networked computer at the school, your initial Password is the first three letters of your month of birth (with the first letter capitalized), followed by an ampersand, then the last four digits of your Social Security Number. For example: If you were born in February and your SSN is 012-34-5678, your initial Password would be entered as Feb&5678. myCommNet will then prompt you to change your Password. The new Password must be a "strong" password; that is, it must be at least 8 characters long and be a mixture of at least 3 out of the four following categories: upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols (!, @, #, etc.). Be sure to remember this Password; you will need it every time you log onto the system or use a school computer. myCommNet will then prompt you to choose a question that you will remember the answer to, and will record your answer. If you do ever forget your Password, being able to correctly answer this question will allow you to reset your Password without having to find someone who is authorized to do it for you.

Once you have done this, you will be logged on to myCommNet. You can either take a few minutes and look around the myCommNet system, or go right to the Online Orientation.

Step 2 - Go to Blackboard Vista

To get to the Online Orientation, click on the "Blackboard Vista" link in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

A new window will open, listing your active semester(s). Click on the "Blackboard Vista" link to the right of any one of the active semester's names.

Click on the link to "TRCCVistaOrientation - Student Orientation."
