CONGRATULATIONS
TO US ALL!!
Our TRCC Construction
Project is finally officially on its way.
On Friday, December 8th, the
State Bonding Commission approved
$76,149,198 for the project and Governor
Rell praised this action as a wonderful
investment for the State. All the final
paperwork for approval and award of the
project by the Commissioner of Public Works
and the State Attorney General is now in
process and will hopefully be completed by
January 15th. In anticipation of
this approval, we held our first
pre-construction meeting today with all the
key players. Our General Contractor for the
project, O&G Industries, said they were
really looking forward to working with the
college and were prepared to start work
within days after the State authorized them
to begin.
ASBESTOS
ABATEMENT:
Other work at the
Thames Campus is already beginning today in
some areas as our asbestos contractor
prepares to initiate abatement activities
throughout both floors of the north wing of
that campus. For the next couple of days,
all furniture and other equipment will be
removed from these spaces and actual
abatement should begin later this week.
Abatement will be completed on the lower
floor by not later that January 15th
and on the upper floor by the end of
January. Immediately following this
abatement, renovation work on the North Wing
will commence by the General Contractor with
the intention to complete that phase of work
and have these spaces ready for classes in
September 2007.
WORK AT THE
MOHEGAN CAMPUS:
Construction of the
Norwich Technical High School project at the
Mohegan Campus is moving along right on
schedule. As you can see, the Shop Wing is
rapidly becoming enclosed, and the
Gymnasium/Cafeteria wing is beginning to
take shape. Locations for temporary offices
for faculty and staff starting next summer
are being finalized and should be available
for review by everyone at the start of the
spring semester. We have just switched over
from our old well water to city water
starting this week so a slight difference in
taste may be noted.
COLLEGE CLOSURE
ON DECEMBER 29th:
On Friday, December 29th,
the college will be closed to permit a major
power cutover at the Mohegan Campus which
will leave that campus without power for
most of the day. At the same time, our
asbestos contractor at the Thames Valley
Campus needs to abate the center corridor by
the elevator, library and cafeteria leaving
that campus with no handicapped
accessibility and without proper emergency
egress from many areas. Because of these
ongoing projects, the Chancellor has
approved a total closure of college
facilities on that date with the exception
of selected maintenance staff who will need
to be present to support and monitor these
projects.
