Yesterday
we had a complaint by students and staff
that they were being sexually harassed on
their way in and out of the building by
construction workers at the Mohegan Campus.
The complaint was forwarded to our
Construction Administrator, and I am pleased
to report it received immediate high level
attention by the Contractor and by the State
Department of Public Works (DPW).
In addition to their
prompt handling of this incident, DPW has
provided the following additional guidance
to be followed in case of any future
incidents of this nature:
"DPW has a ZERO
TOLERANCE for this (sexual harassment)
behavior. If a student/staff/employee
etc.... feels they are being harassed, this
should be immediately brought to the
attention of Turner Construction (our
construction management firm) who will
inform Konover (the General Contractor for
the NTHS project). The individual being
harassed should point out to Turner and
Konover the person who was doing the
harassing and Konover should escort that
person off the site immediately. If the
person puts up a fuss, Turner can call the
state police to have the individual
removed."
While the College
hopes that this action will not be
necessary, no one should have the slightest
hesitation about making such a report if
needed. Reports may be made to my office, to
the Director of Facilities, Marilee Cohen,
or to the offices of the Dean of Students,
Academic Dean, or President. These offices
will in turn forward the information as
prescribed above.
